Cryp-Sure is a specialty insurer built specifically for digital finance. Rather than re-packaging traditional policies for crypto, the company writes cover for the three places where crypto risk actually sits: the user making the trade, the platform holding the assets, and the leadership running the business. Its product lines range from embedded blanket cover that applies automatically to every user of a participating exchange, through an opt-in extension for high-value transactions and bespoke cover for institutional and high-net-worth clients, to prudential company insurance designed to meet MiCAR and equivalent requirements and directors’ and officers’ liability written for the specific exposures of a crypto business. Underwriting, policy administration, loss detection, and settlement run on a single core system, combining agentic underwriting with an embedded engine that integrates directly into exchange infrastructure.
This partnership is particularly interesting for the Lab because insurance is one of the few domains where the quality of on-ledger measurement translates directly into an economic decision. Underwriting a crypto-asset service provider means inferring custody practice, operational resilience, and loss exposure from data that is public but only partially interpretable, and doing so without the decades of loss history that conventional insurance lines rely on. That is a demanding measurement problem, and an excellent setting for rigorous academic research.
Cryp-Sure’s support is already reaching our students this semester, where graduate participants in our course on blockchain applications and decentralized finance are working on applied analytical projects developed jointly with the company, spanning custody-balance monitoring, stablecoin depeg dynamics, cross-chain settlement failure, and on-chain loss-event detection.
We are grateful to Cryp-Sure for its openness, its willingness to expose real underwriting questions to independent academic scrutiny, and its commitment to building research capacity in this field. We look forward to developing this partnership further.
